Betz’s Little Shoppe in Newman Grove offers Quilts, Antiques and more! Located in a friendly town of 800 people in Northeast Nebraska, Doc & Betz Quincy offer an interesting and eclectic atmosphere!
Betty (Betz) started the shoppe as a fashion fabric store in 1984. As demands changed, quilting fabrics were gradually added. This was an easy transition for Betz as she loves sewing and fabrics. She grew up as an avid sewer in 4-H and started making most of her own clothes by 8th grade. As a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, she taught home economics for nearly 10 years.
In 2009 her husband, Dr. Ed Quincy, (Doc) retired from dentistry and joined Betz, adding things they both enjoy – antiques, seasonal greenhouse, yard art and gifts. They continue to do tuxedo rental which was started in 2000. Doc taught science, math, chemistry, and biology before dental school and now enjoys cleaning up antiques. That includes parlor, feather weight and antique mini sewing machines. Customers love adding these unique machines to their sewing rooms.
Quilting classes are offered regularly and most are beginner friendly! Betz tries to choose a project that a beginning quilter can handle and a seasoned quilter would enjoy!
At 505 Hale Avenue in downtown Newman Grove, Betz’s Little Shoppe is located on three lots with extra space for plantings and barrels of flowers. Watch for the antique girls bike tied to the deck. A large barn quilt done by Doc adorns the west side of the shoppe and quilts may be hanging on the rails of the new sidewalls.
Doc & Betz enjoy visiting their four daughters and their families who live in Boise, Omaha, San Francisco & Nashville.
