Hidden Treasures – Mankato, KS

Hidden Treasures opened in 2008 in a building that had started as a general store. The shop is located one block north of Highway 36 in Mankato, KS, in North Central Kansas.

Owner, Luann Wilson, spent 32 years as a school librarian and retired in 2007. The next year was spent renovating the building, purchasing merchandise and attending auctions to find furnishings for the shop.

The shop set up is unique in that the front of the building on one side has a Barber Shop/Beauty Salon. Customers walk through a lobby area, that is used to display finished samples, to reach the purple door of the main part of the shop.

Hidden Treasures carries fabrics from Blank, Studio e, Moda, Robert Kaufman, Quilting Treasures and Wilmington to name a few. Luann credits the fact that she is a former librarian to account for all the books and patterns that are available at the shop.

In 2019, the decision was made to expand into the building to the north. This allowed expansion in fabric selections of batiks, reproduction fabrics, Civil War and 30’s. Another benefit was that the embroidery section could also be enlarged.

The shop now carries most all numbers of DMC floss. Other items are stamped quilt blocks, transfer patterns, counted cross stitch kits and patterns, and various types of towels.

We are looking forward to meeting old friends and making new ones during the All Kansas Nebraska Shop Hop. Visit us on Facebook.
